Salton Sea Outlook 2024
The Salton Sea, California's largest lake, has a rich history and a complex present. Once a bustling tourist destination, it has transformed into a shrinking and increasingly polluted body of water. This transformation is primarily due to a decline in Colorado River flow and agricultural runoff. Despite these challenges, significant efforts are underway to restore the Sea and mitigate its environmental impacts.

EAGLE MOUNTAIN: The Abandoned City in California and its secrets
Before the Salton Sea was created by mishap, there was no ecological importance to the area. It was a dry salt sink. Quit messing with it and let is go back to the way nature intended. Besides, it would be an irresponsible waste of good water.
The Salton Sea only exists because of an engineering disaster then was stocked with those fish. 🐟🐠🐡🐠🐟
I still think pumping ocean water from the Sea of Cortez up into it and creating salt marsh wetlands or other native salt tolerant green cover is worth subsidizing.
My prediction: New battery technology will not need the minerals this area has to offer so no efforts to mine it will occur. The lake will dry up and there will be air quality alerts, and no other expensive efforts will take place.
Hi what milemarker is this at ALSO can you stay over in Niland or do they have people who steal cars or break inns
Super interesting thanks for the update.
Wow such a cool video. The next time Im down there I’ll make sure to check it out. Thank you for sharing your knowledge
Great tribute to Heull and thanks for posting it. The greatest tour guide California has ever had. Every show was so special
I find watching videos about Christtina Angelina's art, especially in Slab City, with Mazzy Star - Into Dust playing to be quite symbiotic to the creation and degradation of her art.
No follow up? I need part 2!
Is this speices halluciangenic?

California sucks.

Cool.
AI voiceovered content stay clear
Why is the voiceover a problem?
Doesn't sound like an ai voiceover. This channel has been posting educational videos about deserts in the southwest for nearly 10 years now.
They are going to have to reroute 111 again. It's heading toward the new 111.
Right. You would think that they would build in the direction that it was moving away from. But mother nature has a funny way of saying f you humans😅.
Incredible
I lived there from 1965 until I graduated high school in 1975. My parents and younger siblings lived there until the mine closed in 1983. Two of my younger brothers graduated from high school there and one of my sisters was in the last graduating class in 1983.

Hiya, awesome video and the terrain is very cool, you can see in different levels of.....once where a river ran through it. Because of small rocks worn from tumbling in a river. Awesome place, sorry you took a fall and hurt yourself, I hope your doing better now. I hope you and yours, have a awesome blessed day. Cya! 😺🐟 out!
"...best kept secret," then proceeds to put it on YT for the world to see. 😒
I had a meeting in San Diego and visited this park, amazing. Great birding, notably at the visitor center and the hike to the Palm oasis, lots of Tanagers (can't recall the species off-hand). Along the drive I saw a couple Western Coachwhips too, all that in a day. Wish I could have stayed longer.
Probably put there by a chinese american trucker
Watch out for snakes!
What and amazing place.

I lived in a commune in Joshua Tree in the late sixties. About ten of us lived under the big rock one summer. I wonder how many of us are still alive. I will always remember you guys, Naomi, Rabbit, Huckleberry, Big John, Don and me Sterno Stan. Thanks to the Big Rock Restaurant for giving us enough leftovers and water to survive.
That's cool brother, hopefully they're still kicking as well. Also cool you remembered their names, must've been a good experience
Everyone is saying this rock 🪨 was uniquely formed and geologist say no glaciers were in the area when it was formed. Rocks don't show roundness and errosion that is just wind and rainfall. The mountain near it are full of round boulders. These boulders were formed in 3 ways. Glaciers rolling them. Oceans or Rivers rolling them. Since there is a mountain of round boulders it appears glaciers had to be involved.
How do we book? Or is it free to visit anytime?
Very interesting place 😘,.. I would like to go there….I had never herd of it before. Sounds fascinating 💕
He should have planted Joshua Trees instead of palms.

Eagle Mountain was a small, thriving, and family-oriented community, my family had strong ties to the place. My Grandfather, Ben Fermon, worked at the mine, while my grandmother was employed at the school. My mother, aunts, and uncles all attended school in Eagle Mountain. However, after the 1983 school year, Eagle Mountain High School closed, and my youngest uncle had to attend Indio High School. In 1976, my mother moved to Indio. I have two older brothers, and I was born in 1979. Due to illness, my grandfather also relocated to Indio, while my grandmother remained in Desert Center. Sadly, my grandmother Gladys Fermon passed away in 1985, followed by my grandfather Ben Fermon the next year. My mother, Diana Fermon, followed in my grandmother's footsteps and worked with children. After retiring as a kindergarten teacher, she passed away in 2020, leaving behind seven siblings and three sons. I am the youngest of the three. Im a Correctional Officer for the California Department of Corrections and served as the Mayor of Indio in 2022. I am currently a Councilmember. Despite the changes, there is still a deep sense of pride in our roots. I have vague memories of spending time in Desert Center as a young boy, and it saddens me to see the area disrespected with vandalism. With the purchase of Desert Center and Eagle Mountain, I believe that revitalization is on the horizon. I visit the area about twice a year, and I owe my existence to Eagle Mountain, as my grandfather and family moved from Utah to California to work at the mine. Without Eagle Mountain, I might not be here today.
